Long after the development of the chemagic Viral DNA/RNA Kit special and the chemagic mRNA Kit special the brand new chemagic Total RNA Kit special becomes available. Starting with a kit for the isoaltion of total RNA from PAXgeneTM blood, the development of a total RNA kit dedicated for RNA extraction from cells and tissue will follow soon.

chemagic 24 Deep Well Plate XL
chemagen introduces world's first 24 Deep Well Plate XL with a capacity of 25 ml per well. Depending on the protocol, this outstanding plate allows the processing of sample volumes up to 4.0 ml. It enables the use of the chemagic 24 Rod Head and therewith the doubling of the throughput from former 12 midsize samples to now 24 samples in parallel.

chemagic QA Software upgrade 5.1 available
The chemagic Quality Assurance (QA) Software is the ideal solution for labs who require high quality assurance while they use the chemagic Magnetic Separation Module I (chemagic MSM I). This particular upgrade is now available and promises a more convenient and flexible handling of the chemagic MSM I with/without chemagic Dispenser. It is compatible with all three chemagic Rod Heads (12, 24 and 96).
The main improvements of this particular upgrade:
- Controlling of all three chemagic Rod Head formats (12, 24 and 96)
- Dispensing in the 6 x 4 format corresponding to the chemagic 24 Rod Head is implemented
- Different dispensing formats can be used with chemagen´s chemagic Dispenser
- Selection of individual columns for dispensing is possible to save disposables
- Service protocols are integrated to facilitate a convenient handling
- Cleaning protocols are integrated to fasten the maintenance
- Remaining time to the external step is shown to facilitate the laboratory workflow
- Text files containing sample IDs/scanned bar codes can be integrated (as a txt-file) in the log file to avoid sample mix-up caused by manual enter

sYnlab meets QCMD criteria
chemagen´s sample preparation in combination with sYnlab´s in-house Real Time PCR meets demands of the quality testings criteria for CMV and HSV testing.
The sYnlab laboratory in Weiden, Germany, participated in the European Quality Control for Molecular Diagnostics (QCMD) in 2008. They wanted to know if their in-house Real Time PCR in combination with chemagen`s sample preparation meets the demands of the QMCD. They used the chemagic MSM I in combination with the chemagic Viral DNA/RNA Kit special to screen blood samples for Cytomegalovirus and different Types of Herpes Simplex Viruses.
The results, summarized in an Application Note, demonstrate that the automated isolation of CMV and HSV DNA with the chemagic MSM I provide viral DNA of highest quality and in sufficient quantity to meet the standardized quality testings criteria.
A new dimension in workflow processing

the chemagic 8.
Eight different features facilitate your laboratory workflow process from primary sample handling via Nucleic Acid preparation to diagnostics and storage. Minimized hands on time, absolute reliability, reproducible results and enormous time saving are only some advantages of the chemagic AID.
Its modular setup makes it extraordinary flexible. Extensions, integrations and updates can be easily facilitated due to 8 axes that allow 360° movements. In-process sample loading enables operating day and night at seven days/week. Once the primary probe is placed in, the chemagic 8 does the rest automatically.
The chemagic 8 was developed in collaboration with ABBIS bio process automation. This prototype is currently under construction. Use your chance to influence the future developments. Decide on your own which feature fits the most to your laboratory workflow process.
Currently Norovirus and Influenza Time
Service laboratories report a rising number of Noro- and Influenzavirus Infections. “At the moment a run with 96 samples in parallel has to be performed several times a day with our chemagic Magnetic Separation Module I” tells us one of our German customers. The chemagic MSM I is used to isolate the viral RNA prior to downstream diagnostics such as PCR. Within 24 hours the doctor gets the results and can start the right therapy.
Avian Influenza
Due to the return of migrant birds, the danger increases, that Avian Flu finds it way back to Europe. The first case has been reported in the beginning of March when a mallard duck in Bavarian was found to be carrier of the Influenza Virus. During the last years the agent H5N1 has been responsible for the closure of many poultry farms and the emergency slaughter of the whole livestock. At every sneaking suspicion fast reaction is required. The Efficiency of the viral RNA isolation from the assured sample material needs to be guaranteed, so a following PCR could confirm that it actually is H5N1.
New CE-marked Kit (02-2009)
chemagen offers its first CE-marked Kit in compliance with the IVD Directive 98/79/EC. The chemagic Plasma D2.0 Kit (article No. D-1047) is intended for nucleic acid preparation from 2 ml blood or plasma. This Kit is particulary designed for the chemagic MSM I with a 24 Rod Head. The automatically isolated and purified viral DNA or RNA is ready to use for subsequent in-vitro diagnostics. This CE-mark particularly helps European clinical laboratories performing nucleic acid preparation from blood/plasma to achieve compliance with IVD directives in their countries. Further Kit certifications are in process.

New 24-Rod-Head for the chemagic Magnetic Separation Module I (08-2008)
chemagen now offers a new solution for customers working with medium volume samples. Double your sample throughput with the new 24-Rod-Head in comparison to the 12-Rod-Head! Besides it allows maximum flexibility while processing even low volume samples starting at 200 µl up to 2 ml on our chemagic Magnetic Separation Module I.
Stability and Quality of genomic DNA, Application Note in cooperation with the ZHMA (06-2008)
The stability of DNA isolated with the chemagic DNA Blood Kits was proven by stress tests and long term storage. Neither the activity of DNAses nor the catalyzation of DNA degradation by magnetic beads could be observed. Long range PCR assays amplificating up to 3600 bp prove the high molecular weight and quality of genomic DNA isolated with chemagen‘s technology in comparison to a commercial salting-out Kit.
Sequencing clean-up for SBT at the Stefan-Morsch-Stiftung, Birkenfeld (04-2008)
The chemagic Seq Pure Kit was developed to purify sequencing reactions, including BigDye® terminator reactions. Clean-up is performed using the unique chemagic Magnetic Bead based technology. The clean-up process is simple, fast and convenient as it requires neither centrifugation, nor filtration steps and removes any type of dye terminator from 5 - 20 µl sequencing reactions.
Viral Testing at the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institute (11-2007)
Automated viral DNA/RNA isolation performed with chemagic Viral DNA/RNA Kits leads to comparable steady and reliable results in downstream Real-Time PCR assays referring to the standard viral DNA/RNA isolation Kit used at the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institute.
